THE CASE OF THE COMIC CON, June 2025

Between Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th May 2025, the Bow Street Society’s table was at its first ever comic con. Run by MCM, this massive event was held in London ExCel by the London Docklands. We were in the dedicated Writers Block zone (table WB20) and I’m thrilled to say it was my best event EVER!

It’s a tendency of mine to overestimate the number of books and merchandise I need when attending book signing events and, as you can see from the photograph of my hallway (left), MCM Comic Con was no exception. To say we needed a minibus to get everything down to London ExCel is not an exaggeration. All I can say is: thank goodness we also had a folding trolley with us to transport it from the car park to the table (when it’s fully open, London ExCel is reportedly a mile across). The Writers Block zone was in the middle of the hall, so we certainly needed the trolley!

My very good friend and long-time beta reader of the Bow Street Society books, Kaz, travelled with me to London ExCel, helped set up the table, helped me to manage the table throughout the entire event, and endured my meltdown when the wifi on my card reader wouldn’t connect (it did, eventually, thank goodness). On the Saturday and Sunday of the event we were joined by my other very good friend and fellow beta reader of the Bow Street Society books, Rita. Again, she helped us manage the table and helped us pack everything away and get it loaded back onto the minibus on the Sunday once the event was over. I truly couldn’t have done this event without these two amazing people. I appreciate their support (and patience with me at times) more than words can describe. The support from my family, particularly my two sisters, leading up to the event was also invaluable and very much appreciated.

By the end of the three-day event, we’d sold over 50 books. We’d also given out almost 200 free Bow Street Society Character Guides, and countless bookmarks and pens. Everyone who came to my table was a joy to speak to. Their enthusiasm for my work has given me a burst of confidence and determination to keep going. The other authors in the Writers Block zone were also lovely. I also made some great connections amongst those who came to my table, which may hopefully lead to possible collaborations in the future.
